Barcelona … the city I always wanted to visit, even while I used to do skateboarding. This time I conceived it from the tourist and photographic point of view.
Photo description of Barcelona city
Many times, even during photography workshops, I was poised that Barcelona is a city where every enthusiastic photographer will find work. It does not matter if your photography is focused on architecture, street photography, sports or nature photography. Every photographer will be delighted in Barcelona and its surroundings. So hooray!
Architecture photography in Barcelona
The pride of Barcelona city is undoubtedly architecture built, according to some people by fascinating and according to others by “crazy” Catalan architect and artist Antoni Gaudi. Antoni Gaudí participated in the construction of world-famous buildings such as the Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, Park Güell etc. He also participated in the reconstruction of the Cathedral of Our Lady in the capital of the island of Mallorca, Palma de Mallorca.
However, for photographers focusing on architecture photography, Barcelona offers much more. You can take pictures of both old and modern architecture. Churches, palaces, squares, office and business districts and last but not least industrial areas.
When photographing architecture and famous places, count on a large number of tourists, even in low season. Therefore, if you go to Barcelona for a photo shooting, I definitely recommend to find out in advance information about the object (opening hours, reconstruction, etc.). If you plan to take photos of local architecture without the presence of people, go for a photo shooting early in the morning. You will certainly have a better chance of success!
Prepare both wide-angle and telephoto lenses for architectural photography. Wide-angle lenses help you to capture monstrous close-ups. The telephoto lenses, on the other hand, will help you capture the elaborate details of master builders. Often, due to the large number of tourists, telephoto lenses is the only salvation for capturing interesting pictures!
Sport photography and street photography in Barcelona
In case architecture photography does not satisfy you, do not worry! Barcelona lives day and night! During the day, you can admire all kinds of street artists on every corner … in the park, in the square and in the public transport.
In the evening you can look forward to crowded bars, entertaining and people doing sports. We liked it a lot, and in fact we were very surprised at how many people were using outdoor gyms and other sports facilities. Here you can definitely take great sport photos or street photography. Or at least you can taste a glass of Spanish wine!
Nature and landscape photography in Barcelona
Even for nature photography lovers, there are interesting places. There are several beautiful parks right in Barcelona where you will be able to discover the local flora and fauna. Ornithologists can look forward to photographing several different species of parrots, which paradoxically occur most in city parks.
If you like taking pictures of the sea and waves, go to the city’s sandy beach. Here you will surely catch not only great shots, but also soak up a chill mood and energy for further photo trips!
Photo tour to Barcelona city
As mentioned above, Barcelona is the city in which photographs of all kinds can be taken. The mood of a busy and rush business city on the one hand is absorbed by the overall well-being of the multicultural population on the other. The overall impression thus seems to be balanced! Well … judge for yourself!
P.S.: Certainly while exploring around the city center and taking photos of Barcelona’s sights, you’ll get hungry! I highly recommend to taste the Spanish traditional ‘Empanadas’, which you will find on almost every corner.
